The Perversion of Family Values

“Family Values” have everything to do with social norms, and the idea that those who are generally scared of change or modernization will tend to clamp down and try to make a values based argument for their views. Family Values is nothing more than a marketing term, as it leaves out happy and positive non-traditional (single parent, same sex parent, happily single, non-theists, non-christian).

For example, do “Family” values allow for visitation rights for same sex-partners in some states at end of life, or better yet, for the Social Security survivor benefits that an individual has paid into for their whole life to be paid to the partner with which they’ve happily spent a large period of their life with so that they can bury their loved one graciously? The simple dignity that any other red-blooded American receives is all they ask. (Equal Process Clause, US Constitution, 14th Amendment)

What is a family value? Respect and Love for others, and I’ll go toe to toe on a values based argument that attempts to use scripture as a defense for hate and inequality, as last I checked the teachings of most religions don’t justify that when read as a whole and not simply torn apart and construed inappropriately for the political goals of a certain schema of beliefs that a group chooses to espouse as “Family Values.”
